This project assesses the impact of mismanaged solid waste burning on air pollution and chronic respiratory
diseases (CRDs), focusing on Nairobi’s Dandora and Nakuru's Gioto Dump sites. Aiming to reduce air
quality inequity and improve chronic respiratory diseases care, the project involves communities in devising
waste management strategies for more sustainable urban planning and development.
Seed funding will be used to organise workshops and stakeholder meetings, engaging researchers and
professionals at various career stages from partner universities for knowledge exchange and developing
joint funding applications.
Activating existing partnerships with local stakeholders, we seek to enhance understanding the role of
waste in CRD management and inform policy, leveraging lasting partnerships for future action-research.
