Transformation and Revitalisation of Malindi Markets Muiruri

Abstract
The Markets in Malindi are transforming. These transformations have implications on the planning, design and use of these markets. The facilitation
of trade, the exhibition of local culture and the perception of architecture within a tourism-oriented urban centre are affected by these implications.
Interviews and observations were used to collect the data. The results of the study indicate that the urban transformations evident in these markets
affected them as a culmination of spaces which should function as a responsive environment that facilitates trade and exhibiting local culture. The
study recommends revitalisation strategies that will address the resultant issues of these urban transformations, as well as aiding these markets in
functioning as responsive environments
