Introduction

Whats a Resort?
A resort is a full-service lodging facility that provides access to or offers a range of
amenities and recreation facilities to emphasize a leisure experience.
Resorts serve as the primary provider of the guests’ experience, often provide services for
business or meetings, and are characteristically located in vacation-oriented settings.
Minimum qualifications for a resort

One signature amenity-can be attractions, geographically significant attributes that
a resort is required to provide access to; lake, national park, wellness facility (manmade).
• Five secondary recreational/leisure/entertainment facilities; can range from water
sports to activities for kids.(involve guest in various activities)
• One full-service food and beverage outlet
• Bed-base must include short-term or overnight lodging
• A minimum capacity of 25 rooms
• Emphasize a leisure or retreat-environment experience

Winam Gulf

The site is found in Winam
Gulf,which is located on the
northeastern part of Lake Victoria
and is connected to the main lake
by Rusinga channel.The Gulf
width is 100km at its widest point
and 50km at its narrow section.Its
shoreline covers a distance of
550km and has recoreded a
maximum depth of 64km

Site Challenges

High levels of humidity and temperatures
• Lack of infrastructure i.e. electricity, sewerage
disposal systems
• Incorporating the local community
• Responding to the local culture and practices
through design and various programmes
• The site has rock stones.
