REVITALISATION OF ELDAS MARKET- DESIGN THESIS

Trading is a practice that has been in existence for as long as man has existed. The original form of trade, barter, saw the direct
exchange of goods and services for other goods and services. Later one side of the barter started to involve precious metals, which
gained symbolic as well as practical importance. Modern traders generally negotiate through a medium of exchange, such as
money. In Kenya, trade has been a major source of income for the citizens. One reason that led to this is the fact that Kenya enjoys a
coast where goods from abroad can arrive through ships and water vessels. According to OEC, Kenya is the 114th largest export
economy in the world and the 86th most complex economy according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI)
In staying true to this culture, Wajir has not been left brhind either. Located at a focal point between Kenya's North Eastern region and
Somalia, Wajir is a focal point where residents from the two regions can meet for the sole purpose of trading. The residents of the
County's main source of income is trade. Their major trade products are livestock, agricultural products and traditional construction
