MAMBRUI RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT,Kariuki FK

Project:

A Developer has acquired two parcels of land in Mambrui, Malindi. Parc

el 7A is located on the

beach front and has an effective dimension of approximately seventy by seventy metres

, and is

generally vacant of existing buildings. Parcel 7B is internally located and is also approximately

seventy by seventy metres, however, has

a proliferation of existing structures of varying

appraisal. His intension is to develop a robust residential development

for both sites

on a time

-

sharing basis to meet the demands of both locals and international stays to meet the needs and

aspirations of

the activities and opportunities of the region. His major constrain is time and he

wishes to secure funding through selling the

residential

units

or shares in the development in part

or whole to prospective local and diaspora investors. This process requi

res that you develop the

project on

ONLY ONE OF THE PARCELS

to scheme design stage of CAP 525 of the Laws of

Kenya, after which the quantity surveyor would prepare estimate cost for the purpose of fixing a

budget and thereafter a business plan and respecti

ve publicity material and be undertaken. You

have five weeks to prepare such a design.

The challenge presented by the project is in responding to the diversity of requirements in

comprehensive urban development, site conditions and constraints, local aut

hority requirements

and in achieving a s

ustainable and suitable design. Care should be taken so as not to destroy the

existing historical and urban qualities that create the strong identity of Swahili Architecture.

In

addition, the design solution should d

emonstrate clear understanding of residential urban

development, site planning, appropriate design scale to the local setting and use of private and

public spaces, movement patterns and branding
