PLANNING AND DESIGN OF FIGHTING ARENAS IN KENYA

Bullfighting has evolved over years from as early as 2000 BC in Knossos where the fights
were held in public squares to today where they are held in organized arenas. There has
also been a change over time in terms of the style of bullfighting especially after it
spread to other countries.
The observation derived from the analysis indicated that the facilities offered in the
arenas have changed and increased considerably. Modern arenas have more seating
spaces for spectators and more public amenities. The safety and security of the
spectators and participants especially in foreign countries has improved with the
development of these arenas.
These findings led to the conclusion that the planning and design of bullfighting arenas in
Kenya is inadequate and requires improvement so as to cater for the safety and security
of the spectators and participants. Arenas have also evolved from simple ones to
complex facilities that incorporate multiple amenities which most of the arenas in Kenya
lack.
